Report for our first online sale...

Ruthin Farmers Auction Co Ltd, North Wales
Timed Online Working Sheepdog Sale — 18th October 2026

Ruthin Farmers Auction Co Ltd’s first timed online sale of working sheepdogs proved a great success, with a quality entry of 15 dogs attracting strong demand and achieving a 100% clearance.

Held via the MartEye app in conjunction with Bala Sheepdog Society, the sale attracted 422 potential buyers who registered to bid ahead of the auction. Interest came from as far afield as America, Belgium and the Netherlands, further expanding the sale’s growing client base.

Topping the sale at £13,500 was ‘Jill’, a 20-month-old black-and-white bitch from Doug Lambie, Ystrad Bach. This stylish, well-bred bitch, out of Jess (J Ollerenshaw) and by Cai (D M Howells), impressed with her work both in the fields and on the hill. She heads to a new home in Cumbria.

Dylan Jones presented ‘Nel’, a smart, stylish 16-month-old bitch out of Gwydr Lily (D R Jones) and by High Hill Jo (D Jenkins). She achieved £6,200 and is sure to be put to good use at her new home in Oswestry.

‘Joe’, a homebred three-and-a-half-year-old dog bred and exhibited by R H Roberts, Cae Du, sold for £6,000. A grandson of David Howells’ Dick, he is bound to please his new owners in Conwy.

Arwyn Davies, Nant y Gau, offered ‘Eglwys Spot’, providing buyers with the opportunity to secure a son of Clwyd Bob (D Jenkins), out of Cynfal Gwen (A Davies). This classy young dog achieved £5,600 and heads to Leominster, where he looks set to do well in the hands of his new owner.

Leading the part-trained entries was ‘Spot’ from Ifan Davies, Cil Bronrhydd, who achieved £3,700. At just 10 months old, this promising young dog heads to Lincolnshire with the potential to develop into a trial or farm dog.

Strong interest continued throughout the sale, resulting in a 100% clearance and an overall average of £3,580, encompassing both fully working and partially trained dogs.

Our vendors are to be congratulated on presenting quality working sheepdogs, and we are very grateful for their support. We look forward to building on the success of this first online sale while continuing to hold our annual live, on-field sale at Bala, North Wales, every May.

Many thanks to all vendors and buyers for their valued support.
